Iran is active in Latin America: envoy 2011 / 01 / 11

Madrid, Jan 11, IRNA – Iran’s Ambassador to Brazil Mohsen Shaterzadeh said that despite US pressures on Iran, the Islamic Republic enjoys active presence in the Latin American region.
Talking to IRNA, he announced that Tehran-Brasilia trade exchanges enjoyed an increase of 88 percent in 2010 compared to the preceding year.

He reiterated that the unprecedented increase occurred in spite of the US pressures and anti-Iran sanctions.

The Brazilian government has repeatedly announced its protest against anti-Iran sanctions which are beyond the UN Security Council’s resolutions, the envoy added.

The two sides are interested in further expansion of all-out cooperation, he said that bilateral trade exchanges exceeded dlrs 2 billion last year.

Iran and Brazil share identical views regarding many world issues such as global peace, uprooting poverty and deprivation, restructuring the United Nations and the Security Council, anti injustice and discrimination struggles, pursuance of peaceful nuclear energy, South-South cooperation, and fight against proliferation of nuclear weapons, Shaterzadeh noted.

He further appreciated Brasilia’s support for Iran’s peaceful nuclear program and said the country’s opposition against the Security Council’s anti-Iran resolutions unveiled the double-standard policies of the US and its Western allies.
