Iran's Deputy Minister of Industries and Mines and the Syrian Minister of Industry have held discussions on joint investment projects.

In a meeting in Damascus on Sunday, Mohsen Shaterzadeh and Fuad Issa al-Jouni reviewed new investment projects to manufacture buses, cement, industrial oil, household appliances, auto parts, tires, medicine and powdered milk.

Emphasizing the importance of cooperation between the two countries' private sectors in industrial projects, al-Jouni expressed his country's readiness to offer its technical know-how and experience to Iran in textile production.

For his part, Shaterzadeh said that Iran's manufacturing companies and investors were ready to make investments in Syria's various industrial fields.

Shaterzadeh is visiting Syria to attend the Iran-Syria Trade and Industrial Cooperation Opportunities Conference, which was held on Saturday and was organized jointly by the Iranian Embassy in Syria and the Iran-Syria Friendship Association.

Some 160 Iranian companies participating in the conference have taken the opportunity to showcase their products in a week-long solo Iranian exposition of goods in Syria.

The value of trade between the two countries hit $200 million in 2007, with Iranian exports to Syria accounting for $180 million of the total.

The value of technical and engineering projects already completed or currently being implemented by Iranian companies in Syria exceeds $1 billion. These include auto manufacturing, cement factories and grain silo construction.
